Tracking access measures
At Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), gender equality in education is reinforced through a data-driven application monitoring framework that operates via the Student Life Cycle Management (SLCM) software. This centralized system captures every application detail in real time, including demographic data, program selection, and admission status. The Admissions Office can immediately generate gender-disaggregated reports by program, department, and campus, enabling targeted analysis of trends. These datasets are reviewed periodically by the Admissions Committee, Deans, and University Leadership, who track changes such as “Women’s application growth in Engineering, 2022–2024.” Departments falling below established benchmarks are prompted to prepare remedial action plans, including gender-focused outreach initiatives in underrepresented fields. This process institutionalizes accountability and transforms gender equality from policy intent to measurable progress.
The monitoring system feeds into an annual feedback and strategy cycle, where results are synthesized to guide outreach, scholarships, and awareness programs. Actions taken include targeted school engagement, mentorship programs, and gender sensitivity workshops, ensuring continuous improvement. Complementing this structural tracking, the Office of Student Affairs fosters gender empowerment through student-led initiatives such as the Gender Champion Workshop, which develops leadership skills and raises awareness about equality and inclusion. The Manipal Centre for Women Studies conducts seminars and conferences on gender justice, labor, representation, and health—embedding academic inquiry into social practice. Student collectives also play a vital role: the Queer Club “IRIS”, supported by the KMC Student Council, organized MAHE’s first Pride Parade (2025) to promote inclusivity and visibility on campus. In parallel, anti-violence advocacy and survivor support programs provide safe spaces for students facing psychological, emotional, or physical challenges, reinforcing social sustainability within the university.
MAHE’s multi-layered system integrates real-time gender analytics, policy response, advocacy, and infrastructure, ensuring that equality in education is both quantifiable and lived. All academic buildings are equipped with women’s rooms, sanitary pad vending machines, and breastfeeding-friendly spaces, reaffirming MAHE’s commitment to dignity and safety for all genders. Through this comprehensive approach—combining data transparency, institutional accountability, and community-driven inclusion—MAHE advances SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). By uniting technological tracking with human-centered empowerment, MAHE demonstrates that sustainable development begins with equitable opportunity and inclusive education.
