Women’s application in underrepresented subjects
In many high-impact academic domains—particularly engineering, computing, data science, and emerging technology—women continue to be underrepresented. This imbalance constrains diversity of insight, innovation capacity, and equitable leadership in the next generation of scientific and technological growth. MAHE is committed not only to admitting women across its programs, but to actively encouraging women to choose disciplines where their participation has historically lagged.
To realize this goal, MAHE employs a two-pronged approach:
| Pathway | Mechanism | Scope / Reach | Key Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| University-Led Outreach |
| Statewide / Pan-India reach across multiple cities and school clusters | Messaging tailored to underrepresented subjects (e.g., engineering, AI, computer science, data analytics) |
| Collaborative Partnerships |
| Regional and national levels | Leverage external networks to amplify women’s subject outreach |
- School contact campaigns (online & offline)
- Participation in fairs and exhibitions
- Program-specific promotional modules
- Alliances with NGOs, school boards, local educational institutions
- Institutional platforms like W20 / G20 partnerships
- Joint awareness / counseling programs
Examples of Outreach & Partnerships
• MAHE’s school contact campaigns reach female students in cities such as [ Kolkata, Ranchi, Guwahati ] with program-centric presentations on STEM, computing, and emerging disciplines.
• We engage in recruitment fairs and exhibitions (e.g. Launch Pad, Startup Expo, MSAP Career Fair, Choose France Education Tour 2024) where our admissions teams host demo sessions, Q&A booths, and distribution of women-targeted brochure kits.
• At the national level, MAHE hosted the W20–MAHE Women Vice Chancellors’ & Leaders’ Conclave (WHEEL), bringing over 50 women leaders to align strategic direction on women’s higher education and promoting gender equity across disciplines. rashtranews.com
• In 2024, MAHE was recognized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as one of the top academic institutions excelling in Women in STEM—a recognition that builds external credibility for MAHE’s outreach and equity commitments. Business News This Week
Signals of Change
- We have observed a year-on-year increase in female applicant share in engineering and IT disciplines.
- Departments that previously saw minimal female engagement — such as Data Science and Electronics — are now receiving a greater number of female applicants, narrowing the gender gap.
- Our hosting of the W20 Conclave fostered idea exchange with peer institutions and expanded outreach networks beyond MAHE.
