The project is funded by ICMR.

  1. One of our faculty Dr. Naveen Salins from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal developed  Palliative Care for Critically Ill Patients in India - India has 78% of hospital deaths, most in ICUs and 15% leave ICUs against medical advice due to high out-of-pocket treatment costs. He developed India’s first procedural guidance document on palliative care for critically ill patients. It can be assessed here.

Before this, he developed a position statement and joint society (Indian Association of Palliative Care and Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine) guidelines for palliative care in the ICU setting. It can be accessed here.

He was part of the ICMR commission to develop national policies on treatment limitation and developed standard definitions of end-of-life care. It can be assessed here.

He set up a critical care review board in my hospital to review the palliative care needs of patients in ICUs. It enabled patients with medically futile conditions in the ICU to receive appropriate care. He has collaborated with ICUs across India and internationally and developed a strategy for palliative care in ICUs through stakeholder engagement. These works can be accessed here.

He is the present chair of the Special Interest Group for the Asia Pacific Region and is involved in developing ICU palliative care in India and internationally.

The embryology training program (Certificate course in Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction) is part of ‘’Merck More Than a Mother’’ campaign. In many cultures, childless women suffer discrimination, stigma, and ostracism. Their inability to have children results in great isolation, disinheritance, and assaults. “Merck More Than a Mother” empowers such women through the access to information, health, change of mindsets and economic empowerment.  The lack of trained and skilled health personnel is the main challenge with respect to access to fertility care in Africa hence the program aims to bridge the deficit of highly skilled Embryologists in Africa and part of Asia to match the ever-rising demand for fertility care in these countries.

students from Ethiopia, Ghana and Malawi received professional training in Manipal and have successfully established IVF programs in their countries. The program is implemented by the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Embryology which is one of the finest centres in Asia for advanced training and research in the field of Embryology
