Sexual and Reproductive Health-Care Services for Students (2024)
MAHE ensures accessible, student-centric sexual and reproductive health-care services supported by dedicated clinical facilities, counselling systems, and health-education initiatives.
1. Student Clinic – Accessible Health-Care Services
MAHE operates a proactive Student Clinic designed to ensure students receive timely and confidential medical care, including guidance related to sexual and reproductive health. The clinic uses an online appointment-based system to minimise waiting time and avoid disruption to academic schedules.
Key features of the Student Clinic:
- Students schedule appointments at their convenience through a streamlined system.
- Reduced waiting time ensures minimal class absenteeism.
- Provides timely access to medical consultations at KH Manipal, reducing risks associated with self-medication or over-the-counter treatments.
- Ensures a smooth care pathway through coordinated visits and follow-up appointments.
Appointment Process:
- Students call the Student Clinic Clerk a day in advance.
- They provide hospital number, mobile number, department to be visited, and review-visit details (if applicable).
- Appointment is scheduled and confirmed via SMS.
Dedicated Consultation Hours for Students:
A specialised medical consultant is available Monday to Saturday, 5:00 – 6:30 pm, exclusively for students in Medicine A/B OPD. Unit-wise restrictions are waived during this slot to ensure easy access.
Emergency Provision:
All emergencies are attended to immediately at Trauma Triage, irrespective of unit restrictions.
2. Health Education & Counselling: Launch of MANAM
MAHE Bengaluru has launched “MANAM”, an initiative focused on the mental, emotional, and sexual health of students.
- Promotes open conversations around sexual health.
- Integrates sexual-wellbeing topics into mental health and emotional resilience programmes.
- Supported by the Student Support Centre, offering counselling, psychosocial support, and access to trained professionals.
This programme contributes directly to students’ awareness and understanding of sexual and reproductive health, aligning with SDG 3.7 (universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care, information, and education).
3. Infrastructure Strengthening: Centre for Embryology & Reproductive Science
MAHE further expanded academic and clinical capacity with the Inauguration of the Manipal Center for Embryology & Reproductive Science.
This centre enhances:
- Access to expert knowledge on reproductive health
- Opportunities for student learning and awareness, and
- Clinical exposure to reproductive science research and services.

1. CME on “Medico-Legal Challenges in OBG” (16 November 2024)
Public Evidence: CME on "Medico-Legal Challenges in OBG"
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, KMC Hospital Attavar, Mangalore, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Medico-Legal Challenges in OBG: Navigating the Complexities.” Held on 16 November 2024, the event aimed to enhance clinical accountability, documentation standards, and legal literacy among healthcare professionals involved in women’s health.
Event Highlights:
- Chief Guest: Dr. Chakrapani M., Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital Attavar.
- Audience: Faculty, postgraduate students, and practising healthcare professionals.
Sessions included:
- Importance of Clinical Documentation – Dr. Gitendra Sharma

A comprehensive panel covered medico-legal topics critical to obstetrics and gynaecology, including:
- POCSO compliance
- MTP interpretation
- Contraception failure litigation
- Maternal mortality reviews
- Legal implications of “death on table”
Panelists included Dr. Gitendra Sharma, Mr. Abhishek, Dr. Aparna Rajesh Bhat, Dr. Nina Mahale, and Dr. Sauda Alam.
This CME strengthens professional competency, improves patient protection, and enhances institutional practices related to reproductive and maternal care.
2. Public Awareness Article: “Exercises to Stay Fit During Menopause”
MAHE continues to promote community health literacy through expert contributions to mainstream media.
In the feature article “Stay Fit in Menopause,” published by Deccan Chronicle, Dr. Preetha R, Associate Professor, Department of Physiotherapy, Manipal College of Health Professions (MCHP), offered specialised guidance to support women’s health during menopause.

- Recommended exercises to maintain strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
