MAHE is a proactive force for positive change, engaging in meaningful cross-sector dialogues with both governmental and non-governmental organizations. Through the collaborative efforts of its diverse departments—such as geopolitics, engineering, health science, European studies, and architecture—MAHE is making significant strides toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The university plays an active role in fostering knowledge and innovation by organizing a wide range of events throughout the year, including public lectures, workshops, seminars, and educational programs. These events attract participation from students, researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and members of the public from across the globe, creating a vibrant community dedicated to learning and development.

MAHE Hosted T20/W20/G20/University connect program - cross-sectoral dialogue 

The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), cross-sectoral dialogue with the T20 Secretariat, ORF, and RIS, organized a two-day event titled “Interlinkage of G20 and SDGs: Challenges, Solutions, and Way Forward” on March 20-21, 2023. This event brought together distinguished speakers from government think tanks, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), industry, and academia to discuss critical topics. Key discussions focused on the interlinking of the G20 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a multipolar world order, the Pandemic Treaty concerning the "One Health" approach, global health governance in the context of conflict, and the dynamics of geopolitics..

W20-MAHE Women Vice Chancellors' and Leaders' Conclave

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) hosted the “W20-MAHE Women Vice Chancellors’ and Leaders’ Conclave” in Bengaluru on 26-27 May 2023. W20 is the official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity, as part of cross-sectoral dialogue . Its primary objective is to ensure that gender considerations are mainstreamed into G20 discussions and translated into the G20 Leaders’ Declaration as policies and commitments that foster gender justice and women’s empowerment. Over 40 women leaders from various parts of India were part of the mega event to engage in meaningful discussions to advance equality for all those on the margins of development.

A Charter of Recommendations was presented to W20, calling for a shift from women’s development to women-led development, the vision shared by W20. Recommendations focused on women-led development were presented in five themes – higher education, labour force participation, skill development, care work and leadership. These aspects are important areas of intervention to mainstream progressive gender perspectives into development policies and practices.

The 4th National Conference on Youth in Social Change, scheduled on September 17, 2023 with a focus on empowering youth to drive positive change, this conference will feature inspiring speakers and thought-provoking opportunities for networking and collaboration. It is a platform for young people to exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop approaches to make a meaningful impact on society. The conference is centred around the SDG theme, bringing together students, academicians, social entrepreneurs, and NGOs from across India

G20 University Connect

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) hosted the G20 University Connect Lecture Series on ‘Engaging Young Minds’ on 11 March 22023. The event was held as part of India’s Presidency of G20, the inter-governmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union.

The G20 University Connect, was jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), a New Delhi–based autonomous policy research institute. The objective was to engage with students from 75 universities around 56 locations across India. The event aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster academic collaboration, and encourage dialogue on global issues among university students.

The UNESCO Peace Chair at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was established to promote peace and understanding through education, research, and community engagement. The Chair is based on the belief that a culture of peace can be built by promoting human rights, democracy, and sustainable development.

The UNESCO Peace Chair at MAHE has several initiatives underway, including:

  • The Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), which offers academic programs and research opportunities in peace studies, conflict resolution, and Gandhian thought.

  • The UNESCO Peace Chair Lecture Series, which brings renowned scholars and practitioners from around the world to speak on peace-related issues.

  • The UNESCO Peace Chair Community Engagement Program, which supports local peacebuilding initiatives and provides training and capacity building on peace-related issues.

The UNESCO Peace Chair at MAHE is playing an important role in promoting peace and understanding in India and around the world.

National-level medical symposium on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)

Kasturba Medical College, Manipal in collaboration with India – Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the Centre for Clinical and innovative forensics and supported by Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences organized a two-day national-level medical symposium on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

The symposium focused on establishing a survivor-centric model of care across India. Specialists in the field of sexual and gender-based violence, including senior medical faculty (forensic medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry), lawyers, and women’s rights activists highlighted the need for better policies and practices to mitigate the structural and systemic deterrents which hinder survivors’ access to medical and psychological care. These include issues such as mandatory police reporting for POCSO, lack of holistic medical education and training among healthcare workers, prejudiced media narratives, and deficiencies in health-seeking behavior among survivors due to a lack of knowledge and awareness.

The aim of the program

  • To connect the students of higher education institutions with local communities and sensitize them to address development challenges through appropriate technologies.

  • To organise awareness programs for villagers to sensitize them about various schemes of government and utilization of those schemes (related to agriculture, industry start-ups and health care utilization).

  • To enhance digital literacy among villagers that enables them to use these schemes

  • To organize community-based health awareness sessions on important infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases and hygienic practices.

  • To organize awareness programs and training sessions for the youth of the villages to encourage them towards self-employment and entrepreneurship development.

 Materials for Environmental Sustainability - Conference

MIT, Manipal organised two-day National Conference on Condensed Matter Physics and Applications (CMPA 2022) with the special theme of “Materials for Environmental Sustainability”.

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), a constituent unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) organised the tenth national conference on Condensed Matter Physics and Applications (CMPA 2022). The conference was held at the Sir M.V. Seminar Hall, MIT, Manipal, on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2022. The event was inaugurated by the Chief guest Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal on 2nd December, later the event was presided over by Cdr. Dr. Anil Rana, Director, MIT, Manipal. Dr. N. S. Vidhyadhiraja, Professor & Dean, JNCASR, Bengaluru and Sri. Rama Naik, General Manager, of Canara Bank, was the guest of honor at the inaugural event.

The two-day National Conference was sponsored by the Science and Engineering Board, Government of India, DST-SERB, on Condensed Matter Physics and Applications (CMPA 2022) at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. This year’s special theme was “Materials for Environmental Sustainability”.

The National conference provided rich insight into different fields of physics such as materials for environmental sustainability, semiconductor devices, material characterization, crystal growth and characterization, spintronics materials, etc.
