International collaboration data gathering for SDG
Participate in international collaboration on gathering or measuring data for the SDG
As a leading multidisciplinary university, the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is firmly committed to international collaborations that focus on collecting and analysing data for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have taken decisive action to assess data relevant to these goals. Our dedicated Committee for Sustainable Initiatives has been established to drive our efforts, and we are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
We proudly host an exclusive sustainability website that delivers comprehensive data aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators for all 17 SDGs. Our platform showcases the data we collect pertaining to the SDGs, highlighting our international collaborations and the impactful activities we conduct year-round.

Partnership with UN Environment Programme for Data submission for Race to Zero
MAHE is actively engaged in the implementation and assessment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of its vision to become a fully net-zero emissions campus by 2040. This commitment is in line with the university’s participation in the 'Race to Zero' campaign, which emphasizes the importance of achieving global carbon neutrality, as highlighted by the IPCC. Collaborating with partners such as EAUC (The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education), Second Nature, and the UN Environment Programme, MAHE is dedicated to fostering a sustainable future. An important aspect of this initiative is the annual publication of public reports detailing our progress towards the SDGs. This transparency not only reinforces our commitment to collaboration but also allows us to effectively measure and celebrate our achievements in sustainability.

International collaboration on gathering or measuring data for the SDGs for UI Green Metric
The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is a ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010. Through 39 indicators in 6 criteria, UI GreenMetric World University Rankings prudently determined the rankings by universities’ environmental commitment and initiatives.
MAHE actively gather and submit the data for the UI Green Metric which measures on the Green Campus and Environmental Sustainability. We are ranked 1st in India in this exercise and ranked 121st globally.

At MAHE, we are deeply committed to sustainability. We understand the importance of promoting a culture of sustainability throughout our institution and beyond. This is why we have implemented a range of measures to ensure that we remain at the forefront of sustainable practices.
Our Management Systems (EMS), Energy Management Systems (EnMS), and Quality Management Systems (QMS) help us prioritize sustainability and compliance.
We conduct regular internal and external audits to identify and address environmental management system issues proactively, ensure compliance, and promote continuous improvement. Our internal audits occur twice a year, and we conduct an annual external audit by TUV Rheinland, a reputable agency.
To ensure that our internal auditors have the necessary skills to conduct effective audits, we organize training programs on Environmental and Energy Management Systems from external agencies. These programs keep auditors updated on the latest standards, methodologies, and best practices.

Education on Collaboration to initiate gathering and measuring data.
The annual Global Health Learning Symposium is returning for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. This event, which focuses on international collaboration for gathering and measuring data related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was held from April 17 to April 29, 2023, at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in Manipal, India.
The symposium is supported by the Global Health Advisory Board (GAB), which consists of professionals from various sectors, including private industry, NGOs, and healthcare consulting. This board plays a crucial role in overseeing a collaborative effort among seven partner universities: Thammasat University (Thailand), Ahfad University for Women (Sudan), Maastricht University (the Netherlands), McMaster University (Canada), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India), the University of Southeastern Norway, and Universidad del Rosario (Colombia). Together, they aim to translate global health regulations—including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and conventions from WHO, ILO, and UNEP—into actionable strategies within the Indian health system through this symposium.
Her Royal Highness, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, serves as the Honorary Chair of the board, which includes the following members: Dr Thijs Teeling (Chair, Netherlands), Dr Luis Barreto (Canada), Mary Heersink (USA), Dr Priscilla Reddy (South Africa), Jeff Mainland (Canada), and Elizabeth Witmer (Canada). In preparation for the symposium, the International Advisory Board of the Global Health Program convened at MAHE from April 14 to April 16, 2023, engaging in collaborative discussions.
From April 15 to April 28, 2023, the symposium will welcome over 300 students and more than 30 faculty members from various institutions, including Maastricht University, McMaster University, Ahfad University for Women, Niigata University (Japan), and Thammasat University. Celebrated as a flagship event at MAHE, this occasion will feature a two-day conference with inspiring keynote speakers, thematic sessions, and opportunities for students to present their thesis research.
The symposium emphasizes educational innovation and features a variety of engaging methods, including learning pods, group interactions, and international faculty collaboration. Students will work in teams from different countries, participating in a system mapping exercise that introduces them to systems thinking. This approach not only enhances their learning experience but also encourages collaboration among peers from diverse backgrounds, knowledge, and skills, fostering a rich learning environment.

Participating in gathering or measuring data
The Manipal Institute of Virology (MIV) is part of the Global Virus Network (GVN) and the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) in the following ways:
MIV has achieved the distinction of being a Global Virus Network (GVN) Centre of Excellence, signifying its preeminent standing in the field of virology. Its research and educational programs are of the highest caliber, making it a leading and respected institution. MIV is an esteemed partner in the GVN's Research Network, where it collaborates with other members on virus-related research projects. Furthermore, MIV is a vital member of the GVN's Diagnostics Working Group, actively contributing to the development and implementation of new diagnostic tests for viruses. In addition, MIV plays a crucial role in training virologists from other countries as a member of the GVN's Capacity Building Working Group. MIV is a partner in the WHO GOARN. This means that MIV is one of the institutions that the WHO calls upon to help respond to outbreaks of infectious diseases, including viral diseases. MIV has a team of experts who are ready to be deployed to outbreak sites to help with testing, surveillance, and control of viral diseases. MIV also has a laboratory that is equipped to test for a wide range of viruses.
In addition to its involvement in the GVN and GOARN, MIV is also a member of a number of other international organizations related to virology, such as the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) and the World Society for Virology (WSV).
