Radio awareness program on cancer and its prevention on February 2, 2024
World Cancer Day 2024 Activity ReportWorld Cancer Day is celebrated every year on February 4th to create awareness of cancer and its prevention. Between 2022 and 2024, the focus of World Cancer Day is to help "close the cancer gap." This year marks the third and final year of the campaign. The theme for this year is "Together, we challenge those in power.". This theme encompasses the global demand for leaders to prioritise and invest in cancer prevention and care and to do more to achieve a just and cancer-free world.
On behalf of the cancer awareness programme, the Department of Community Health Nursing and students of 4th year BSc Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, conducted a radio awareness program on cancer and its prevention on February 2, 2024, at 3 pm. The programme was broadcasted by Community Radio, Manipal, at 90.4 MHz on February 4, 2024, at 4:20 pm and re-telecasted on February 5, 2024, at 12:15 pm.
The department also organized a cancer awareness programme on February 5, 2024, at PU College Moodubelle. Presented on the causes of cancer, signs and symptoms, diagnostic measures, and prevention of cancer. The team demonstrated role play on lung cancer, followed by an educational video on breast self-examination. Conducted another awareness program on breast & cervical cancer at Government High School, Palli, on February 12, 2024




Educates Students on Influenza Prevention
On the occasion of World Flu Day, the Manipal Institute of Virology conducted a successful awareness session at Indrali English Medium Higher Primary School, Udupi. Through interactive sessions, poster, and collage competitions, we encouraged students to take health into their own hands and understand the importance of flu prevention. Together, MIV and MAHE are committed to building healthier, informed community.
The event aimed to educate students from 5th to 8th grades about influenza, its prevention, and its impact on public health.
The session included interactive presentations on the symptoms, transmission, and prevention of influenza. Students were also encouraged to participate in poster and collage-making competitions to showcase their creativity and understanding of the topic.
Through this initiative, we hope to empower young minds to take proactive steps towards preventing the spread of influenza and maintaining good health
Radio awareness programme on Tuberculosis and its prevention
World Tuberculosis Day was observed on March 24 each year to raise public awareness and understanding about one of the world's deadliest infectious killers, TB, and its devastating health, social, and economic impact on people around the world.
The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, organized an awareness program on March 23, 2024, at Labour Colony, Pragathi Nagar Manipal, from 5.30 to 6.30 pm as part of World Health Day 2024. The awareness program (Mime) was hosted by the NSS unit of Manipal College of Nursing and was based on the theme 'Yes! We can end TB' to raise public awareness about tuberculosis.
The awareness program encompasses the signs and symptoms, treatment, and prevention of tuberculosis. Mime emphasized early identification of the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, dietary management, and facilities available from the government to the public. It also highlighted the importance of drug therapy. The program was followed by a demonstration of hand hygiene. Around 90 residents of the colony were part of the program.
On behalf of the Tuberculosis Awareness Program, the Department of Community Health Nursing conducted a radio awareness program on Tuberculosis and its prevention . The department also organized a role play on tuberculosis and its prevention. The objective of the role play is to sensitize the public on health and wellbeing.




Senior Citizen's Medical Camp (IDOP)
On account of World Geriatrics Day, a senior citizen camp was conducted at Ravindra Kala Mantapa, MGM College, Kunjibettu, Udupi on 01/10/2024 in association with District Administration, District Panchayat, Department of Women and Child Development, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens, District Legal Services Authority, Udupi District, Advocates Association, Udupi, Senior citizens Organisation Udupi District, Udupi District Mahila Mandals Union, Nursing Homes Udupi District, Canara Bank Regional Office, Udupi.
The free camp offered various services, including general health checkups, consultations for common skin conditions, eye exams, orthopedic consultations, referrals to higher care facilities, and ECG tests. Additionally, the staff from DH Udupi provided free medications and glucose random blood sugar (GRBS) testing for those in need after consultations..








Talk on drug abuse & prevention for students of Board High School & PU college, Udupi on occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking 2024
On occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking 2024, observed on 26-06-2024, an awareness session on drug abuse & prevention at Board High School & PU college, Udupi was organized under the joint auspices of Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi district, Board High School & PU college, Udupi, Red Ribbon Club, Junior Red Cross unit & Community Medicine Department KMC, Manipal
The Department of Community Medicine at Manipal provided valuable insights on various forms of drug abuse, including risk factors, negative effects, and prevention methods. The resource person emphasized the importance of a healthy diet, regular exercise, yoga, meditation, and the avoidance of tobacco and alcohol for overall well-being. A total of 125 students attended the program.
District Health and Family Welfare Office administered an anti-drug use pledge to the students. The forum was also attended the Red Ribbon Coordinator, and Treasurer of the Red Cross in Udupi and the locals












Dhwani – A Sound of Inspiration, organized by the Rotaract Club of Manipal on 21st January 2024 at MGM College, Udupi. The 8th District Conference featured activities such as Zumba sessions, mental health talks, vocational and leadership training, cultural programs, and a musical concert. Additionally, Pan-India Feminine Hygiene Product Donation Drive organized by the RedX Club of MIT from 14th to 17th July 2024. This multi-city event involved 30 MIT participants distributing hygiene products in cities such as Manipal, Ranchi, Mumbai, Jamshedpur, and Hyderabad, in collaboration with NGOs and local homes. These efforts reflect our commitment to holistic wellbeing and community engagement.
Awareness program on "Genetic Counselling" through Radio 90.4 MHz: Health Education Committee of the Student Nurses Association (2023-2024) of Manipal College of Nursing Manipal , MAHE, Manipal, organised a radio talk on genetic counselling on 25.01.2024.
