Relationships with regional NGOs and government for SDG policy
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has actively supported the Sustainable Development Goals in India through policy engagement, expert consultation, and collaborative events with national agencies. In January 2025, MAHE co-organized the “Dialogue on Health Diplomacy in the Global South” with the Indian Institute of Public Health - Gandhinagar, supported by the Ministry of External Affairs (Policy Planning & Research Division) and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat (Daijiworld News Coverage). This event advanced India’s leadership in global health governance, emphasizing the role of academic diplomacy in strengthening national health policy networks and enhancing South-South cooperation in sustainable development. Senior policymakers, including the Chief Minister of Gujarat, acknowledged MAHE’s contribution to shaping policy discussions that align health security with SDG 17 partnerships for the goals.
MAHE’s policy impact extends into economic and environmental domains through research-driven international collaborations. The 7th International Conference on Green Economy and Sustainable Growth through Strategic Change (2024), organized in collaboration with the College of Banking and Financial Studies (Muscat) and MAHE Dubai, brought together policymakers, economists, and sustainability experts to deliberate on low-carbon growth and strategic transitions (Conference Details). The conference outcomes provided actionable policy recommendations that informed regional sustainability frameworks and green economic transitions within India. In addition, MAHE’s partnership with the Udupi District Administration resulted in the Janani App, a maternal health-tracking system that strengthens public health monitoring and policy execution by ASHA workers, reflecting tangible contributions to SDG 3 (Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
At the international level, MAHE Dubai plays an active role in climate policy advocacy as a member of the Universities Climate Network (UCN) under the COP28 UAE framework, supporting the UAE Net Zero 2040 vision ( UCN Engagement Overview ). Through youth-focused forums and climate dialogues, MAHE contributed to policy discussions shaping COP28’s regional outcomes. Across its campuses, MAHE continues to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration, promote youth and research participation in SDG implementation, and advance evidence-based policy translation. By integrating academic research into governance and community systems, MAHE exemplifies how universities can operationalize SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) to foster resilient, sustainable policy ecosystems that drive national and regional development.
